It doesn’t matter what era it was sung, written or said – the common denominator is PURPOSE!
People today are so crazy busy, technology has made life easier on one hand but the lines are blurred between personal and professional lives on the other, relationships are affected (I know because I mentor executives on business related issues and ultimately it flows in and out of relationship fallout) and stress levels are so incredibly high.
A sales manager called me the other day and said “Bernadette I am on my way into the office and am resigning – you are the only one I have told!” 17 years in the industry…”Blue skies”, he said, “blue skies beats the resources being taken from me and my sales team having to do more with less”
It’s not about the money! It’s about the purpose, the validation, the meaning of why we are doing what we are doing – and it doesn’t take much effort or cost to shift the focus.
Sales is not just about getting out there and doing the do. It is more – it is about marrying what they need to do with who they need to become and sales managers are not trained in that. If it is about the money for you then invest your discretionary spend here.
